Cherokee could perform all of the "Airs above the ground as well as jump ~6 feet.
He had been a professional jumping pony when he came to Ivory's.  Cherokee's previous
name was Teddy.  Cherokee did not perform the Airs in the shows, but would demonstrate them in the paddock around the front barn at the old place.

Judy Zupan rode Mighty Mabel in the show and they were a bigger hit than all of the other performers.
After Butch jumped the high jump the announcer would give a big introduction for the star performers (Mighty Mabel and Judy).  Judy on Mighty Mabel would gallop out and race toward the jump, which would be raised to its highest point.  Then, after jumping the takeoff bar, Mighty Mabel would race under the high bar to the delight of all.  They really were the stars of the shows at the old Ivory Polo Club on 8-mile and Lashur in Detroit.

Some of the above photos were taken by James F. Gerow, Photographer, 15750 Alden Ave.,
Detroit 38, Mich.  UN 1-6209  (This address and phone number is shown on the back of some of the photos and is from the 1950s.)  As I can remember, no charge was ever made by this photographer for any of the photos he gave to the riders.
